MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
The Associate Engineer must have earned a Bachelor of Science degree in electrical engineering or electrical engineering technology. At the time of appointment, applicant must possess a valid Oregon driver’s license. A physical capacities test and a drug screening are required of the successful applicant prior to beginning work.
GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
This position provides support and assistance for the Electrical Engineering Supervisor in completing work related to the design of electrical system substations and transmission lines; system protection, equipment settings, metering, electronic controls, and system maps, drawings, and equipment records; design of electrical improvements, construction, and engineering projects; and assists other departments in a consulting capacity as needed.
It is preferred that applicants have a knowledge of engineering principles used in electrical utility systems, RUS specifications and work order processing, NESC and NEC regulations, legal descriptions, easements, and the permit application process. Applicants should possess skill in the use of personal computers and standard office equipment as well as surveying techniques and procedures.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is performed in both office and field environments. Work in the office environment is sedentary in nature, requiring ability to sit for extended periods, ability to hear voice communication, and visual acuity to enter information on a computer and read a computer screen. Work in field environment may require bending, climbing, crawling, stretching, pulling, pushing, standing, twisting, and walking. There is common exposure to dust, pollen, traffic, and fumes. Field work may be performed in adverse weather conditions such as snow, rain, flooding, summer heat, etc. When in the field, a moderate amount of driving is required.
