MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:     

The Utility Mechanic must have earned a STATE CERTIFICATION (heavy duty truck mechanic).  At the time of appointment, applicant must possess a valid Oregon driver’s license and must obtain a Class A Commercial Driver’s License within 6 months of appointment.  A physical capacities test and a drug screening are required of the successful applicant prior to beginning work.

GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:

The Utility Mechanic, under the direction of the Head Utility Mechanic, performs a wide variety of mechanical, fabrication/welding, and body/painting work as it pertains to the repair and maintenance of the District’s mechanical equipment, including the automotive fleet.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT:  Work is performed in both shop and field environments.  Work may require bending, climbing, crawling, stretching, pulling, pushing, standing, twisting, and walking.  There is common exposure to dust, pollen, traffic, and fumes.  Field work may be performed in adverse weather conditions such as snow, rain, flooding, summer heat, etc.  When in the field, a moderate amount of driving is required.
